Strigiformes is the order containing all types of owls. Owls are birds of prey though some are herbivores, eating berries as well. These birds are mostly nocturnal, meaning that they sleep during the day and are awake at night with some exceptions such as the Athene cunicularia better known as the burrowing owl. Because they mostly hunt at night, Strigiformes have adapted thick velvety feathers that allow silent flight. This allows owls to sneak up unexpected on their prey at night. Owls have binocular like eyes that are stuck in their head so their eyes don't move. To compensate for this feature owls can turn their head 180 degrees to see what's behind them.
