Hahniidae

Belongs within: Neocribellatae.

The Hahniidae are a cosmopolitan family of small spiders that construct delicate sheetwebs close to the ground. Members are most commonly found in forested areas. They are characterised by the distinctive arrangement of the spinnerets which form a single transverse row (Jocqué & Dippenaar-Schoeman 2007).

Characters (from Jocqué & Dippenaar-Schoeman 2007): Small; eight eyes present in two rows; legs with three tarsal claws; tracheal spiracles opening midway on abdomen; ecribellate; spinnerets arranged in a transverse row; entelegyne.
