Name and family:
The Guppy is scientifically known as Guppy, Guppy, Lebistes reticulata, Millionfish, Rainbow Fish.
It comes from Poeciliidae family and originates from South America, from the areas of Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil and islands such as Barbados.
Feature and behavior:
The Guppy’s male is little, whit a slim body, curved back, little head, rounded belly and caudal peduncle so long. Dorsal fin is high and the ventral fins pointed and a round tail full of color, depending on the species. The livery presents a light brown background, semitransparent, with patches, blue, orange, green and black by gold- or silver-metallic reflections. The female hand has wider body and long, with a more linear back and the belly more rounded, with more rounded fins. The female plumage is gray-brown, yellowish transparent. There are more variations and those more common are: Tuxedo Fantail, Black, Red, Columbian, Blond Red, Paradise Neon Gold and Blue Lyretail Japan.

Il Guppy è un pesce onnivoro e in natura si nutre di zooplankton e piccoli insetti; saranno quindi consigliate larve di zanzara o artemie saline oppure anche il mangime secco sotto forma di granuli o scaglie spezzettate. Accetta anche piccole verdure sbollentate come i piselli.
