DIFFICULTY:

TIPS:Den Helm stets gut festgezogen und jede Menge Lust sich zu amüsieren..

The Ponale Trail is a must for all bikers visiting the trails of the Trentino Garda. Built around 1850 it was a very bold project and, until a few decades ago, the only direct link with the Ledro Valley. After some years of neglect this trail has been restored and given back to hikers who can now discover some breathtaking views of Lake Garda. The trail is a dirt road, except for the old tunnels which are paved. The uphill slope is gentle but steady: numerous stops are there for some rest… but don’t forget the incredible views! And there are also passages through the Mediterranean Scrub, in a mix of history and nature. The way back will be on the same trail.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Ponale: the famous trail sheer on Lake Garda;
  • Tagliata: Austro-Hungarian fortress of the end of 1800;
  • “the Spur”: entrenchment in sheer drop over the lake;
  • Ponale Waterfall: beautiful gorges made by the river before entering Garda Lake.
