Nepeta subsessilis

Nepeta subsessilis Catmint

Common Name: Catmint, Catnip

N. subsessilis produces spiky heads of bluish purple, 1.5 inch long, trumpet shaped flowers all summer long if deadheaded. Its deep green leaves have serrated edges and are larger than the faassenii types. They form a dense mound of foliage. Unlike other Nepetas, this one prefers moist soil.

When its stems are broken, they release an aroma into the air that tends to attract cats, thus its common name, Catmint.
