ORA blue bottle brush, slow grower???

occasionally I'll have a frag that just siiiiiiiiits and then takes off. I've had an ORA blue bottle brush for a few months that is not even encrusting. Not losing color, no recession. Just siiiiiitting. Other frags added at the same time are taking off.

Question #1 Slow grower?

Questions #2&3 If you have one, where do you have it placed(height, light, flow)?

Mine's midway down ~ 18 inches directly below a DE 250 Hamilton 14K, in decent indirect flow.

I have mine up high, in high flow, under a 250w aqualine 10k. I've only had the frag for about a month and a half, but it's encrusting well and will likely take off soon.

Some corals just take longer to aclimate to your tank chemistry. You really can not judge one coral to the next in any tank. What grows well for you , may not for others etc

Oh I've definitely experienced that! Just looking for a consensus on this particular frag.

I've had mine since Sept. About 18" under Radium 250w. Hasn't grown at all and has lost some of it's blue. Just moved it up to about 8" below light on Sat. We'll see what happens.

Mine loves getting hammered with light. 7-8" under a 400 watt MH. Color will brown if I frag or even touch it. Hope that helps some, when happy it's a spectacular coral.

Oh yeah, slooowwww growing for me too.

This is also a frustrating coral for me. I can't get any growth or color out of it.

Grows and looks nice 6' inches under some overdriven current 460nm t5's. Moderate flow.
When I take macro shots of the small piece I have they always come out looking over saturated and fake, the blue/ purple is so nice.

I also must add I run a skimmerless system with few fish. So my blues and purples tend to come out very well.

I just picked up one of these the other day. Does anyone have pictures of theirs?

Here's mine. I bought it from my LFS last summer and from what I can tell it hasn't grown at all. Not even the slightest bit. I don't think mine is from ORA, but it looks just like it, and was more of a small colony than a frag when I bought it.

Alright, now we're getting somewhere. I was hesitant to move it, because I've had corals do this and then after even as much as a year explode with growth and color. But this is very interesting. Perhaps it's time to move it up and put something (excuse to buy frags) in its place.

When you say it will "take off," do most frags encrust first, then grow out? Or.....?

That's been my experience. Alot will encrust first, then grow out. Some do it all at the same time. Either way="take off".

On the right. Has lost some of the blue after I moved it into my display about a month ago.

After I moved it I lost some color also. Hopefully once it is comfortable where it's at the color will come back.

That has been my experience as well. They seem to encrust or "put down roots," then once they have solidified themselves the growth rate really starts to increase.

I just picked one of these up though, so I can't really comment on the growth rate or color yet. (on the far right in the picture below).

Mine has kept amazing color, even more intense than pictured. It is high up under a 7 bulb constellation.
