Rivendell was, or is, selling Shimano Nexave RD-C505 rapid rise rear derailleurs (originally 8 speed indexing) with new bicycles. I have a Shimano Nexave RD-C600 Rapid rise rear Derailleur (originally 9 speed indexing. I have been unable to locate a picture of one installed on a bicycle. It is a rather bizarre looking derailleur with no cable stop and three pivots, although the upper pivot would appear to remain stationary in operation - kind of like a drop link. It appears to want to have the cable routed through the upper mount, then around a pulley, then back through the upper mount again, then through a threaded hole(??) to the cable anchor. Anybody have one of these and know how to install?

This may help Laing, there's always manuals floating around the web somewhere !

Laing -- I haven't used one of these but see the attached pdf document for the SL-C600 shifter manual. It has a small section on cable routing for the rear derailer, screenshot also attached.

And I marked up your photo showing what I think the manual says about cable routing. No idea what to do about lack of cable stops.

Thank you both.

Pretty much confirms what I thought. I guess it is kind of like a Sturmey-Archer three-speed; the raw inner cable comes from a pulley, or bottom bracket cable guide. Almost tempted to install a shifter on the seat post like my Guv'nor - no outer housing at all, but it is kind of awkward to shift from the seat post.
