NEW CASE STUDIES: SEE HOW AFFINITY® HELPED TO SUPPORT HEALING

Affinity® details and resources

Affinity, as a protective barrier and ECM scaffold, supports the body's inherent healing process leading to the development of granulation tissue formation. Affinity supports an optimal environment for healing in a variety of wound types.

As the only fresh amniotic membrane tissue product on the market, Affinity is the gold standard choice—closest to a native, unprocessed amniotic membrane.1-3

Affinity is a human tissue allograft intended for use as a protective barrier that acts as a scaffold in the management of acute and chronic wounds.2 Affinity may be applied to a variety of partial- and full-thickness acute and chronic wounds, such as:

  • Dermal ulcers
  • Trauma wounds
  • Dehisced wounds
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Venous leg ulcers (VLUs)
  • Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs)
  • Wounds with exposed bone and tendon

Affinity application steps4

Preparation of the wound bed:

Ensure that the wound is free of infection. Sharp debridement should be performed and extended to healthy, viable bleeding tissue. Hemostasis should be achieved, and heavy exudate controlled.

Affinity application:

Remove Affinity from the inner tray using sterile technique, like forceps

1. Remove

  1. Using aseptic technique, remove the inner tray from the outer tray
  2. Peel back the foil lid from the inner tray, remove Affinity, and place the product on the inner side of the foil lid
Identify stromal side of Affinity with a cotton swab

2. Identify

  1. Identify which side is facing up by touching the surface with a sterile cotton swab
  2. If the stromal or sticky side is up, then turn Affinity over, so that the stromal side is facing down on the foil lid. If the epithelial or non-sticky side is facing up, then you do not need to turn the product over
  3. Rinse with a sterile irrigant prior to application
Place Affinity onto the wound with the stromal side in contact with the wound bed

3. Apply

  1. Slide Affinity off the foil lid and onto the wound so that the stromal side is in contact with the wound bed
    • Two forceps can be used to help with orientation
    • Trim Affinity as needed so that it is slightly larger than the wound bed
Dressings and re-application schedule:
  1. Anchor Affinity using preferred fixation method, such as sutures or adhesive strips, then cover Affinity with a primary nonadherent dressing
  2. Apply a secondary dressing that controls drainage and provides a moist wound environment
    • Offload or compress appropriately based on wound type
Affinity can be applied at the onset or duration of the wound, with subsequent application at the discretion of the healthcare practitioner. Please confirm with your current applicable payer policies for up-to-date Affinity coverage requirements and policies.
