Coltsfoot also known as Tussilago farfara is a plant of the genus Groundsel (Senecioneae) of the family Asteraceae, and originates from Europe and parts of Central Asia. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that spreads with seeds and rhizomes, it is often found in colonies of dozens of plants. Its flowers, which on the surface resemble dandelion, have small leaves on their long stalks. Its leaves appear after the flowers have left seeds. The flower heads have yellow petals with an outer row of arms. The plant is about 10-30 cm in height, and its leaves have angular "teeth" between them.

Coltsfoot strong antitussive properties. And it is used by pharmaceutical companies in cough medicines and in filters for smokers. The plant acts as an emollient, antitussive, anti-catarrhal and diuretic. It can be used for chronic or acute bronchitis, irritating cough and whooping cough.
