Amphiprion nigripes

Common Name: Blackfoot Skunk Anemonefish

Scientific Name: Amphiprion nigripes Regan, 1908

Distribution: Maldives, Lakshadweep, Sri Lanka

Type Locality: Maldives

Identification: Dorsal white stripe is absent; a single vertical white strip present anteriorly. Body color varies from bright orange to dull brown. Dorsal fin yellow, often darker in spinous portion. Pectoral and caudal fin bright yellow. Pelvic and anal fins black.

Similar: Somewhat similar to others in the perideraion group, but the combination of the single white stripe and the dark ventral fins is unmistakable.

Notes: The color of this fish can vary considerably, from bright yellow to a dull earthy brown. Occasional specimens have the white stripe highly reduced. This fish seems to be particularly abundant in its range, often occurring in huge groups where its host anemones are dominant.
