Weeping Moss ( Vesicularia Ferriei )

Weeping moss, like all other aquatic mosses, are fairly easy to care for as they readily adapt to a wide range of water parameters and lighting conditions. Once established and acclimated to your water conditions, weeping moss has a deep green color and is characterized by its downward-sloping growth.

The plant does not root into the substrate, so it must be attached to wood, rocks or similar objects in the aquarium. This can be achieved by using cotton thread to wrap around the object or with super glue found here: AquariumPlants.com’s glue or Seachem flourish glue. Mosses can also be used as a ground cover by gluing it to a fine stainless-steel mess to hold it down. While they do not have roots, they have rhizoids, which allows the moss to naturally secure itself to an object as it grows. The rhizoids do not absorb nutrients; therefore, they are water column feeders. Having no roots, mosses depend on the lighting and water parameters to grow. They will grow faster with moderate light levels, but they can survive in low light conditions.

Weeping moss does not need co2 to grow efficiently, but it will help the moss to grow at a faster pace and develop a more drooping effect to the offshoots. Trimming should be done occasionally in order to maintain its desired size and also helps promote new growth. If your Weeping moss is not growing to your desired specifications, you can supplement with some liquid fertilizers, but be very careful not to overdo it. If there are too many nutrients in the aquarium or the lighting level is too high, algae can begin to take over in the aquarium. Overall, Weeping moss is an easy and great addition to any tank, as it provides hiding places and cover for egg-scattering fish.
