Untitled, 2007
Born 1973 in Maglegaard (Denmark), he lives and works in Berlin.
Sergej Jensen is best known for his work in textiles, with which he has subtly extended the language of painting. His abstraction gestures towards the decorative roots of the genre by using materials such as silk, linen and wool, which he stains, tears, colours, sews or simply leaves to the mercy of the elements. The recycling of the materials and his attention to details and the incidents that underscore his expression indicate a desire to get away from the heroic figure of the painter. Sometimes, in his installations, the artist places his paintings in interiors, into which they merge.
At les Abattoirs – Musée Frac Occitanie Toulouse he will present a set of works that represent the development of his paintings over the last ten years.
