She’s a Mother of Pearl (Nacre) which is comprised of the same inner shell layers that Pearl’s are made from
I had a bit of a head canon that they’re managers in the reef that oversee the production. I was gonna add in an Opal in an advisory role at the back too but I keep changing what they look like :/
A while back you did reforms for Sugilite & Sardonyx, but since the series is over I was wondering if you could maybe redesign them based on ruby and sapphire' s new outfits and the brief Steven form cameos in Snow Day. I'm a really big fan of your art, sorry again for the interruption I was just curious.
I did actually! I thought I’d lost the Sugilite one but found it buried in my folder. They’re not too different (since Opal didnt change much i didnt want to deviate too much from their previous designs/silhouettes) but they have a few small changes and subtle colour differences
This one felt like it deviated too much from the established canon and was less cohesive?

A few people have theorized that Desert Glass is meant to be “Jarbicyte” from the concept art book, and based on that I did a bit of a character design challenge to make other types of glass too. They’re about Peridot height
Yes! I thought about that also. Here’s a concept for one. Same “family” so there are similarities like the round face, leg shape etc but they’d be bigger (keeping Snowflakes canon design in mind as well that has these features and the fact that she may have lost some features during corruption) I have a bit of a head canon that they can vary in size and shape a bit more than other gems based on the size of their actual stone without being considered off colour

Ah, kind of! I take them on as I can when people contact me depending on how my health and stuff is. If you’ve messaged about commissions and I haven’t replied yet it’s probably because I’ve got a lot on atm and am waiting to make sure I’m free before committing. I might put up some slots soon though!
How do you do front views of faces, the noses are so hard to draw correctly and the eyes are so hard to aline.
What I do if I’m stuck on placement with angles is to use guidelines and build from there. First step is the base, then the rough detail guide, then adding the details. You might need to play around with what looks right, but it usually works with whatever style you’re working with
