Oval-spot Butterflyfish

Chaetodon speculum

Yellow with black blindfold and large black spot on the middle back. Yellow caudal fin with transparent end fringe.

Size : 18 cm

Habitat : In clear lagoons and out reefs with rich coral growth, 3-30 m. Less common species, ranges usually alone through the reef. Feeds on coral polyps and invertebrate bottom-dwellers.

Distribution : Malaysia and Christmas Islands to SW Japan, New Guinea and Tonga.
