Ambon Scorpionfish

Pteroidichthys amboinensis

Eyes lying high on the head, each with an enormous skin tentacle above. Colouration usually yellowish to dark brown. Also red and pink coloured versions are known.

Size : 12 cm

Habitat : On sand and mud, also in algae areas, 3-50 m. Creeps over the seabed with pectoral and pelvic fins.

Distribution : West Indonesia to SW Japan, North Australia and Fiji.
