Acanthurus nigricauda

Horizontal stripe to the rear of the eye, tail base whitish.

Size : 40 cm

Habitat : Inhabits clear lagoons outreefs as well as murky, sandy lagoons, 3-30 m. Ranges alone, often also in groups of other surgeonfish, near reef areas with sand and ruble ground and stringy algae growth. Can switch its basic colouration rapidly from dark grey brown to pale grey.

Distribution : East Africa to SW Japan, GBR and French Polynesia.
