Why plant Tiger Eyes® Staghorn Sumac?

Don't be caught off guard by the beauty of the Tiger Eyes® Staghorn Sumac—it truly is a stunner as it provides lovely year-round color! When the cutleaf foliage emerges in the spring, it will be a chartreuse color that will later shift to a bright greenish hue. In the fall, foliage will mature to a vibrant scarlet color with small hints of orange. For an interesting contrast, stems are a pink to red color that causes the lime green foliage to POP even more! By winter, you'll have brilliantly red stems that provide color during the dreariest of winter days! The views this plant creates are extremely eye-catching, you'll be stuck looking at this beauty all season long!

How To Plant Tiger Eyes® Staghorn Sumac

The Tiger Eyes® prefers a home in a full sun location. When it comes to soil, it isn't too picky, doing well in a range of soils like sandy or clay. Of course, it'll be happiest with a well draining soil.

How To Water

When freshly planted, you should be diligent in watering your Tiger Eyes®. We recommend watering every two to four days to be sure it receives sufficient water while it works its roots into the surrounding soil. After establishment, you can reduce watering to once a week.

How To Fertilize

At the time of planting, you should fertilize your Tiger Eyes® with the Bower & Branch Starter Plant Food to ensure your plant receives the much needed nutrients for establishment. After that, fertilize in early spring as your plant begins to break dormancy for the year.

How To Prune

The pruning of your Tiger Eyes® should take place in late winter to early spring, before it breaks dormancy. Prune back any long shoots for a more uniform look if desired. Dig up any root suckers that may appear and remove them to prevent the plant from spreading and to maintain a compact habit.
