This 1987 Porsche 944 was the first in a series of lightweight wide-body conversions sold under the name “Widerstandsfähig.” It was completed in 2015 and sold on BaT in October 2020. Power is from a 5.7-liter LS6 V8 paired with a 944 Turbo AOR-code five-speed manual transaxle and limited-slip differential. Red-finished custom fiberglass bodywork includes wide fenders, a louvered hood, and front and rear valances. The car is also equipped with an adjustable wing and splitter, three-piece 18″ wheels, and a race-prepped interior. It was used as a demonstration vehicle at SEMA in 2018 and was one of 15 Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary cars, and it has appeared in automotive periodicals received awards at international tuning shows. This modified 944 is now offered in Pennsylvania by the selling dealer with build records and a clean Pennsylvania title.
Custom body panels were constructed from fiberglass and include wide-body fenders, a front air dam, a louvered hood, and a modified tail panel without lights. The factory sunroof was removed along with the door handles and side markers. Lexan cabin windows were added along with tubbed rear inner fenders and an adjustable carbon-fiber rear spoiler and front splitter. The car is finished in red with white vinyl lettering and painted racing stripes. Paint chips behind the rear wheels and a crack along a hood vent are noted.
The widened bodywork accommodates three-piece 18″ wheels wrapped in 335/30 front and 345/45 rear Hoosier racing slicks. Suspension is lowered on adjustable coilovers with Koni Yellow dampers, Eibach springs, and camber plates. The chassis was reportedly seam-welded, and hollow sway bars from Tarett Engineering were added. Braking is via Porsche “Big Red” front calipers and a 944 Turbo rear setup with adjustable bias.
The cockpit has been stripped and fitted with a single Kirkey aluminum racing seat featuring a five-point harness. A downsized battery is mounted in the footwell and powers the ECU, fuel pump, and fans, which are controlled via a switch panel on the transmission tunnel. A five-gallon fuel cell is also located in the passenger compartment.
An LCD display is mounted ahead of the Momo quick-release steering wheel. Total mileage is unknown.
The 5.7-liter Chevrolet LS6 V8 crate engine was modified with a 92mm intake manifold and Big Mouth throttle body from Fuel Air Spark Technologies as well as long-tube headers feeding a dual exhaust system with 3″ pipes exiting through the right rocker panel. A strut tower brace spans the engine bay.
Shifting is through a five-speed AOR-code Porsche transaxle with a SPEC Stage 3 clutch and a 40% locking differential. The selling dealer states that the transmission fluid was changed and the clutch was bled in preparation for the sale.
A binder of build records and receipts is included in the sale.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in North Carolina and Indiana through the most recent entry in October 2016.
The car is titled to the above VIN plate, which has been removed from the car.
