I have four of these beginning to bloom so I should have a good seed crop.

That is one of the first to bloom for me too, Bill. However, I just have the one plant. They still set fruit, but they are empty.

Neoporterias like to grow empty fruit, or at least look like they are growing empty fruit and then abandon them. If you cross-pollinate you'll get seeds though :)

You mean with another Eriosyce or 'trick' it with any old pollen?

Neoporteriae are a fascinating and chalenging genus to grow. I love it, as all the clilean cacti.

The flower is amazing! :thumbright:

Whatever takes your fancy. Another plant of the same species would be ideal if you want to sow the seed. Anything else could be an interesting hybridisation experiment.

Very nice, Bill.
Mine is about to open its flowers.

I photographed this one extracted from the habitat in a shop near the Valley of Elqui.

We asked the owner where he got to photograph the habitat, but refused to give the information.

I guess I meant getting it to "self" by introducing foreign pollen. Would that work on this species? Am I going to have to try it this year to find out?
