A cat is very lucky to be alive after a rescuer saved his life last month in Round Rock.

On January 26th, “Barney," a stray cat, attempted to jump over a fence when one of his paws got caught between the wooden slats, leaving him hanging upside down.

Experts say Barney was trapped for about eight to 20 hours before a rescuer found him and saved him.

Barney, however, broke his hip and cut his circulation to his leg while attempting to escape.

The rescuer was able to provide initial care but then had to reach out to a few local organizations to afford further assistance.

The rescuer eventually contacted Shadow Cats (a non profit organization that helps abused and abandoned cats) on Facebook. That's when volunteers immediately leaped into action.

When Barney was taken to get examined, the veterinarian said the physical damage was too great, and as a consequence his leg was amputated.

Barney is currently at the Shadow Cats sanctuary healing nicely, but his veterinary bill was $2,400.
