The Peira Levada (Alexadre Durand) 2022 Velvet Underschiste is made with 50 year-old vines of Grenache and Syrah on schiste. There is a long 90 day maceration without extraction and zero added SO2. Flashing a deep purple velvet robe, the nose is all plums and spice. The palate is surprisingly tart with black cherries and blackberries with savory green herbs; lifted yet silky and plush. A clear partner for all manner of barbequed meats, spicy dishes, peking duck and charcuterie boards. (No added SO2)
