Eastern triangular butterflyfish

Distributed in the central Indo-Pacific including the Great Barrier Reef, Solomon Islands and Fiji. In Japan, from Suruga Bay southwards. Mature fish have been identified southward of Amami Oshima. Juvenile fish are occasionally seen in southern Japan, however they are not established populations. They inhabit the coral reef at depths of 3-15m. They feed on polyps from stony corals of the genus Acropora.
