This is my dominant male Maingano

Currently I have 2 Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos (Maingano) at about 8cm long. The dominant male is pictured on the left and the other is very much paler in colour. I haven’t vented them so its difficult to know if the other is a female or a subdominant male.

They are awesome looking fish- this blogs logo is a silhouette is of one, its a shame my camera is so bad as the picture really doesn’t do the fish justice. They are however, very aggressive and the dominant male is currently bullying most of the inhabitants of my tank – especially the poor little Demasoni. This is apparently par for the course with Melanochromis species, and if anything Maingano are the least vicious of the family. I dread to think what how the worst Melanochromis behave!

So, reluctantly, I am finding new homes for them. I was hoping to buy a few more to diffuse the agression but I cant seem to find any good specimens and it might not get the demasoni off the hook anyway so for now at least, its farewell Maingano….
