- Solche Formwörter sind: Zahlwort, Fürwort, Umstandswort, Verhältniswort, Bindewort und auch das Hilfszeitwort.
- Keiner dieser beiden Wörtergruppen sind die Ausruf- oder Empfindungswörter zuzurechnen. Die meisten neigen wegen eines ihnen mangelnden bestimmten Begriffs den Formwörtern zu. Aber andere sind auch als der kurze schnelle Ausdruck eines Gedankens anzusehen, z. B. Halt! Marsch! Hurra!

- Das Haupt- oder Dingwort (Substantiv) und das Geschlechtswort (Artikel).
- Aus den schon vorher angegebenen Gründen betrachten wir diese beiden eng zusammengehörigen Wortklassen zu gleicher Zeit.
- Geschlecht und Biegung des Geschlechts- und Dingwortes.
- Das Dingwort oder Hauptwort dient zur Bezeichnung eines Gegenstandes oder, wie man auch sagt: es ist der Name für einen Gegenstand.
- Vor jedes Ding- oder Hauptwort kann man eins der Geschlechtswörter „der, die, das“ oder „ein, eine, ein“ setzen. Alle Hauptwörter werden mit einem großen Anfangsbuchstaben geschrieben.
- Ein Hauptwort kann einen und auch mehrer e Gegenstände bezeichnen. Fisch — Fische; Ofen — Öfen.
- Bei den Hauptwörtern unterscheidet man ein dreifaches Geschlecht: das männliche, weibliche und sächliche Geschlecht. Das Geschlecht der Hauptwörter wird durch die Geschlechtswörter oder die Artikel bezeichnet. Der und ein bezeichnen das männliche Geschlecht. Der Lehrer, ein Stuhl. Jedes Hauptwort, das mit dem Wörtchen - „der“ verbunden wird, heißt ein männliches Hauptwort. Die und eine bezeichnen das weibliche Geschlecht. Die Tafel, eine Flasche. Jedes Hauptwort, das mit dem Wörtchen „die“ verbunden wird, heißt ein weibliches Hauptwort. Das und ein bezeichnen die geschlechtslosen Dingwörter oder Neutra; man sagt aber auch oft: sie bezeichnen das sächliche Geschlecht. Das Huhn, ein Haus.
