Wicked Brings the Magic of the Emerald City to the Arsht Center

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Whether you’ve been spellbound before or are defying gravity for the first time – you will be delighted by Wicked at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts (@arshtcenter), which runs through March 5th. The widely acclaimed, highly-entertaining show continues to captivate audiences- who laugh and sing out loud throughout the stellar performances.

It comes as no surprise that Wicked is as “popular” now as it was 20 years ago, when it debuted on Broadway (IYKYK). The fantastical tale about love and friendship that turns everything you thought you knew about the Wizard of Oz upside down, mesmerized the audience in Miami on opening night, as it has on Broadway, where we first saw it almost two decades ago. Once again, the show left us wanting more and singing the brilliant songs days after we were enthralled by its magic.

Elphaba, played by Lissa deGuzman and Glinda (Ga-linda)  played by Jennafer Newberry, commanded the stage, delivering impeccable performances. Their talent, passion and voices capable of melting the heart of a Tin Man with the poignant and, at times,  heartbreaking lyrics of some of the most beautiful music ever written.

Wicked welcomed new cast member Christian Thompson in the role of “Fiyero.” Thompson, a Fort Lauderdale native, masterfully portrayed the dashing love interest of both sisters in the show. If you have yet to experience Wicked– now is the time to discover which lucky sister ends up with the fabulous Fiyero.

We couldn’t agree more with the Arsht Center’s Senior Director of Communications, Gino Campodonico, who shared,

Wicked is a beloved classic for good reason. 20 years after its premiere, this Broadway blockbuster still continues to amaze new audiences and loyal fans with an inspiring story about the Witches of Oz and soaring score including “Popular,” “For Good” and “Defying Gravity” of course. It’s a show full of heart, bravery, friendship and love… a story to which all of us can relate.”

Currently the fifth longest-running show in Broadway history, Wicked has won over 100 international awards including a Grammy Award, three Tony Awards and six Drama Desk Awards. Since its inception in  2003, Wicked has been performed throughout 16 counties and in over 100 cities around the world.
