Spitting on the floor is prohibited. Work may not be left before the set time without permission. The daily work schedule is set out in the timetable. By chance, we recently came across a notice of the rules that applied at the A. Haegler & Cie. mill in Lausen just over a hundred years ago. Times long gone, today many things are different - fortunately! Our rule is that once the work is done, you go home after consultation with your colleagues. No point waiting for the clock to reach a certain time. Work procedures are not set out in the timetable, but allocated by the team. How we organise ourselves is not a matter for a boss but for common sense. ...and nobody spits on the floor either 😂

Good to have "small" ships! We're back in Baltimore. Atlantic Container Line vessels can fit through the new "Limited Access Channel", which is too narrow for large container vessels. We can now accept your bookings to and from #Baltimore again. Some special conditions apply, while the monumental task of removing the collapsed bridge sections in the Chesapeake Bay is underway. Contact Franco Forlin for more details.

An underestimated risk in shipping. Owners of the "Dali" have declared "General Average". You probably heard that a ship hit a bridge in Baltimore, causing its collapse, injuries, loss of lives and many problems for a lot of people. But did you know that the owners of the cargo on a ship may be required to contribute to the salvaging of the ship? This is what happens when General Average is declared. The cost can be substantial and most of the time cargo owners are required to pay hefty sums. This may be even more troublesome if the delay has rendered their time-sensitive cargo worthless or - in the case of perishables - rotten. Shipping is an adventure and the risks involved in this activity are manyfold. Luckily, one can get insurance against many of these risks, including the one of General Average, at a fairly low cost. We recommend that all shipments are insured, irrespective of their cargo value. We are here to help, if you wish to receive more information on this subject.

We are very excited to welcome Megi Gehrig on board of M/V Ozean! What makes us very proud: Megi began her career in the world of transport with us in 2018! She completed the first year of her training with Ozean, before she continued her apprenticeship in the network of the Ausbildungsverbund SPEDLOGSWISS Nordwestschweiz. In the meantime Megi has built a reputation of excellence in customer service. Her solution-oriented approach and her positive attitude is a perfect match with our team. Now the circle closes and we are happy that Megi is back with the crew. She will enforce the customer service team of Franco Forlin where she will support our customers and principals Atlantic Container Line and Grimaldi Group. Welcome Megi! 🎉🎉🎉

The Red Sea Situation is here to stay (for now). Attacks on unarmed ships have continued for more than two months now. The “Rubymar” sank last weekend following an assault by the Houthi rebels. Nobody was injured in this incident, but at least three crew members lost their lives on board of the “True Confidence” after she was hit by missiles. Experts advise to build longer transit times into supply chain planning, which in these uncertain times seems sound advice. With their cowardly acts of violence against defenceless crews, the Houthi-Rebels aim to amplify their political demands. Surprisingly, attempts to stabilize the region militarily have failed thus far, despite the deployment of substantial weaponry. We still don’t expect a major disruption from this situation. But if you are engaged in global trade, you are likely to continue facing difficulties, most notably delays and higher shipping costs.

Merry Christmas! 🎅 Does that sound a bit delayed to you? Well, it’s been a tradition at Ozean to have our Christmas bash in the first months of the year. We think that the calendars around December are crowded enough already, so we prefer to come together a few weeks after the last festive season. Or is it a few months before the next? Be that as it may, we’ve had a fabulous time at the legendary “Chateau Lapin”, which is arguably the best “Beiz” in Basel, where you get your traditional Swiss food served with a smile. Looking forward to our next Christmas bash, which will be staged in a year (approximately 😉).

This was a childhood-memory. Now the Top Spin is lost for the Basel Autumn Fair. And it's our fault! Because we have just shipped the famous "Top Spin" to the United States 😀 Some of us still remember how they had to overcome their fears as toddlers, bravely climbing the stairs to the dreaded seat of what was then the craziest ride in town! Our bravery was rewarded abundently! Spinning and turning for minutes, many enjoyed a temporary loss of orientation. Famously, the floor beneath the Top Spin was covered with chewing gums, coins, lighters and other assorted items which were not attached firmly enough to the riders. Speaking of firm: Our esteemed principal Atlantic Container Line made sure that the Top Spin was smoothly taken on board and safely lashed under deck - as is the case for all cargo shipped with ACL as RoRo or Breakbulk. Thanks a lot to our esteemed customer for the booking! And sorry to all those who were looking forward to their traditional joyride of the Top Spin in Basel in autumn. The greatest Top Spin fans may find the ride showing up in an amusement park in the USA very soon! https://lnkd.in/ejpQzhby

It’s a small amount we’re paying to Plusport every year. But it makes a difference! For an amount as small as CHF 250.- Ozean enables a child with a disability to do sports. Since many members of the Ozean-Crew are sports-fanatics themselves, we know the great benefits of an active lifestyle, both physically and mentally, We’ve heard that it’s become increasingly harder to collect funds for causes like this, as many people these days prefer to support people suffering from the war in Ukraine. It’s a difficult choice to make, as clearly the children, women and men in war-torne countries deserve our support just as well. Luckily, it’s possible to become a patron of Plusport from CHF 60 already. “It's incredibly nice to see how sport has developed in the direction of inclusion”, says Daniela Loosli of PluSport Behindertensport Schweiz. We’re glad to hear it. https://lnkd.in/dr6Hm65

Several major carriers have said that they will be avoiding the Red Sea route and thus the Suez Canal for the time being. How will this impact global supply chains? As per media reports, Houthi-Rebels have carried out attacks on several cargo ships, prompting the carriers reaction to look for alternatives to the Suez Canal. Some 12% of world shipping traffic transits the canal, but options are available. The longer voyage on the southern route via Africa's Cape of Good Hope is longer in distance, but results in similar transit times, if travelled at full speed, albeit higher bunker (fuel) costs occur. Therefore most experts expect little impact on business. Contact us to find out how and if your shipment is affected. https://lnkd.in/eXKKEzi2
