Mary, Undoer of Knots

“”the knot of Eve’s disobedience was loosed by the obedience of Mary. For what the virgin Eve had bound fast through unbelief, this did the virgin Mary set free through faith.”

Latest work, inspired by the painting by Johann Georg Melchior Schmidtner (1700).

Mary is the new “Eve.” Her obedience to God’s will unties the knot of disobedience of the first Eve.

Shown as the Immaculate Conception, she stands on a crescent moon, treading on the serpent which represents the devil,. About her head is a crown of 12 stars. She is enclosed within a mandorla, as she dwells in Heaven, separating her from the earthly night sky. Below her is the temptation of Adam and Eve.  The lilies are a traditional attribute revering to her purity.
