Threesomes. They are the great, tawdry unknown for many of us, and yet they seem to be everywhere in film and TV. Every time a fictional couple feels a lull in their relationship, they pull in a third partner for a threeway and embrace a triangle of love. Of course, then comes the drama…

There are sweet, funny threeways that help reinvigorate a couple’s romance — like the one in The Unicorn — and dark and dirty threesomes that reveal a hidden malice — like the one that almost got American Psycho banned. There are those that shock and titillate us, like the infamous Wild Things threeway that signaled a major plot twist, and others that are just hilariously too real, like the thwarted threesome in Netflix’s Easy.

What’s interesting about the 13 threesomes on our list is that they show a huge scope of human sexuality. (No, seriously.)
