What is the St Agnes Rock Pool?
Hidden out of sight from the beach at Trevaunance Cove, in what remains of the old harbour, is a mermaid pool just big enough for a sheltered private swim. Next to the pool is a shallow bath similar in shape to the rock-cut Basset Baths in Portreath but we think it is probably part of the old harbour workings.
Nearby, a series of sea caves, the remains of several harbour walls, copper mine ruins and some dramatic coastal features add a dramatic backdrop and more opportunity for those seeking a more adventurous wild swim.
How do you get to the St Agnes Rock Pool?
Park at Reppers Coombe Car Park, from here head down to the beach and turn left following the western edge of Trevaunance Cove. The sandy beach soon turns into piles of large granite blocks that are the remains of several old harbour walls. Clamber over these and you’ll soon come to the pool tucked in the corner of the cliffs below Trevaunance Point House and the old harbour winches.
When is the best time to go to the mermaid pool at St Agnes?
Go as close to low tide as possible, to be able get across the rocks and explore this corner of the cove. A wild swim around here at high tide is also epic ,for confident swimmers, but you won’t be able to see the pool.
Is the beach at St Agnes dog friendly?
Trevaunance Cove is dog friendly all year round, although it’s a bit of a scamble over the rocks to get to the pool.
Is the St Agnes Rock Pool suitable for small children?
Again, this pool is a bit tricky to reach for small children and you wouldn’t get a buggy over the rocks so try Chapel Rock pool at nearby Perranporth instead.
The caves and mine adits around this stretch of coast are dangerous places, particularly for small children so take great care around here.
