Keanu Reeves addresses ‘Speed 3’ prospect: “We’d freaking knock it out the park”
A follow-up to the disastrous 1997 sequel?
When Patricia and Samuel Nowlin Reeves Jr gave birth to their son, Keanu, in Beirut, Lebanon, on September 2nd, 1964, little did they know that they had just produced a person who would go on to be an icon of cinema and one of the most cherished actors of all time.
Keanu’s parents split when he was three, and due to his mother’s job and subsequent marriages, he enjoyed a globe-trotting upbringing that saw him rub shoulders with a host of legends, including shock-rocker Alice Cooper, which would set a precedent for all of the brilliance that he was to experience when he eventually made it in Hollywood.
The star of a host of classics such as ‘Bill and Ted’, ‘My Own Private Idaho’, ‘Point Blank’, ‘The Matrix’ and more recently, the ‘John Wick’ franchise, for an age Reeves has been hailed as the nicest man in Hollywood and is so excellent that he is affectionately regarded as the “internet’s boyfriend”. Despite his status, Reeves is an everyman that has built rapport with people from all walks of life.
As casual in real life as his character Ted, Reeves is about as cool as they come. He exists in the same orbit as figures such as Paul Newman, Harry Dean Stanton and even Christopher Walken, and although his story is not yet complete, it is inevitable that we will still be discussing him in such hallowed terms in many years to come.
Another reason that has endeared Reeves to his growing fanbase is his expansive love of music, with his favourite acts including Joy Division, Fugazi, The Clash and even Violent Femmes. Added to this close connection to music is that his band, Dogstar, were not panned as you’d expect from someone of his status, with the group receiving a respectable amount of success in their time, playing at festivals and even supporting Weezer in their early days.
Topping it all off for Reeves is the sincerity that he oozes. There are no facades, and what you see is what you get, which is unheard of for an artist in his position. Reeves has always been candid, and after experiencing immense tragedy in his personal life, he’s always sought to make the world a better place through the lessons he can teach.
It’s no coincidence then that Richard Linklater, the auteur behind the Reeves-starring flick ‘A Scanner Darkly’, said of the actor: “My biggest thing about his quality is that, you know, I’m sure everyone says he has that good-hearted, kind-hearted guy quality. Not a suck-up, though, like he’s trying to be a good guy or impress anyone. He’s not running for class favourite. He’s not asking for your vote for anything. And yet, he exudes total decency.”

One of them got the much better end of the deal.
He refuses to let that flame burn out.
“Kathryn was fixated on him.”
“I really gotta get out of this bath, otherwise I’m going to die.”
A fifth instalment is set to arrive.
It’s hard to imagine anyone else.
He did just fine in the long run.
