Their snouts can create a powerful suction, which they use to suck in prey! They ambush their prey the same way a seahorse does, floating very slowly — these two groups of fish are in fact related!

FACTS!!!!
Wowza! Took a while, since last year I took some breaks… but I did it! 1000 fish facts just keeps getting closer, eh? It should be here in the later months of this year…. but! An elephant only gets eaten piece by piece! Let’s get to 800 first! ;)
Besides its ability to give electric shocks, another trick up the sleeve of the whitemargin stargazer is two venomous spines just above its pectoral fins! They’ll use their venom to defend themselves against predators, and to subdue prey.
A YEAR OF FISH FACTS!
I shall dedicate this one to my very favourite fish, my true love:
Their current native range is the east coast of North America, but they were also endemic to the Baltic Sea before they went extinct in the 20th century. There have been attempts to replant it though! It’s a fish that enjoys living alone or in small groups and they migrate up rivers to spawn.
Fish have gills maybe. Sometimes, I think? Uhh….

You have no idea holy carp holy carp theres this one atlantic salmon migrating at the same time as me,,,, says we’re going to the same river,,, her sides are such a gorgeous rich chestnut colour and shes so large compared to me and her belly accentuates her curves and shape in the best way! Her scales are so shiny too? Shes practically glowing!!! Ngl I really hate how barren fish representation actually is :( There’s two types of fish ever. Fish and shark and sometimes ray. They always show generic fishes only, like nonspecific fishes with one or two primary colours plastered on the side. Where are the pipefishes? The anemonefishes? The anglerfishes? The damselfishes? The morays? The hogfishes? The groupers? The marlins, the tunas? Even the wrasses???? There are never any specific species, just red fish, blue fish, that’s it!

No need to be passive aggressive @among-the-seaweeds-deactivated. You say anemonefishes are oversaturated in the media? In that case, point me to the seemingly abundant movies where two-band anemonefishes are the main character? How about the ones with only Mauritian and orange-fin anemonefish leads? Red saddlebacks, tomato anemonefish, orange anemonefish, skunk anemonefish, wide-band anemonefish, I could go on. Just because one species of anemonefish, the clown anemonefish, starred in one movie doesn’t mean that the rest have it super nice and cozy.
Finding Nemo wasn’t even too good for clown anemonefishes either. It’s the only movie many have seen that even features a clownfish in a speaking role. My anemonefish roommate has often had people calling her Nemo or asking her to tell a joke because it’s a “funny gag” from the movie. It’s the first thing people tell her when they meet her a lot of the time. Trust me, the only person who has a problem with better fish species representation is you.

Also called a gulper eel, its most recongisable feature is its massive jaws! They’re estimated to be up to a quarter of the eel’s length and look disproportionately large compared to its small body and thin tail. Their jaws allow the eels to swallow prey much larger than themselves, and some footage suggests they may also use their large jaws as a defensive measure, helping them appear larger and threatening.
They’re anglerfish which have adapted to using their pelvic fins as legs, using them to walk on the seafloor instead of swimming!
Adult barracudas are solitary hunters, but juvenile barracudas actually form schools! These schools can have hundreds, even thousands of individual fish.
Their protruding nostrils help them sense vibrations in the water around them. This helps them hunt at night in the darkness!

The very first animals that could be considered fish appeared around 500 million years ago, during the Cambrian period. They’ve been evolving and diversifying ever since! With 35 000 discovered extant species and counting, there are more species of fish than there are species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians combined.
Unlike most barreleye fish, or spook fish, this fish has more forward-facing eyes! Typically fish like barreleyes can point their eyes directly above them (as well as in front of them), but binocular fish are an exception.
This fish belongs into the family Cetomimidae, which is also called flabby whalefish: they’re among the deepest living fish out there, with some species living in depths of several kilometers! This particular species is named after the hair-like growth on its body. Not much else is known about it, as it lives very deep!
