The juveniles and mature individuals of the species are so strikingly different that they’re sometimes called two separate names, rockmover wrasse for adults and dragon wrasse for juveniles!
And as there’s no point in claiming something without anything to show; the fish above was an adult, but here is a juvenile for comparison:

FACTS!!!!
Wowza! Took a while, since last year I took some breaks… but I did it! 1000 fish facts just keeps getting closer, eh? It should be here in the later months of this year…. but! An elephant only gets eaten piece by piece! Let’s get to 800 first! ;)
Besides its ability to give electric shocks, another trick up the sleeve of the whitemargin stargazer is two venomous spines just above its pectoral fins! They’ll use their venom to defend themselves against predators, and to subdue prey.
A YEAR OF FISH FACTS!
I shall dedicate this one to my very favourite fish, my true love:
Their current native range is the east coast of North America, but they were also endemic to the Baltic Sea before they went extinct in the 20th century. There have been attempts to replant it though! It’s a fish that enjoys living alone or in small groups and they migrate up rivers to spawn.
Wowza! The milestones just keep coming! Let’s get to 700, friends! ;)
As for your fact….
It is a nocturnal shark, spending its days resting in a comfortable crevice or hidden in vegetation! Like crocodiles, they prefer to incapacitate their prey via a “death roll”, doing a spinning motion and pulling their prey along with them.

Also called a gulper eel, its most recongisable feature is its massive jaws! They’re estimated to be up to a quarter of the eel’s length and look disproportionately large compared to its small body and thin tail. Their jaws allow the eels to swallow prey much larger than themselves, and some footage suggests they may also use their large jaws as a defensive measure, helping them appear larger and threatening.
A lot of people feel uncomfortable with the idea of fish having teeth, especially when they “shouldn’t”. So, to get you folks more used to the idea, this week, I’m going to be talking about all things teeth, teeth, teeth! That is, a small glimpse into the diversity of fish dentition and the variety of reasons why certain fish have evolved the teeth they have. Thank you @trickstertox for the fun idea :D
This fish is a heterodont, which means its teeth show differences in size and shape: sheepsheads have teeth that have specialised into molars, incisors and grinders. The molars are actually found in several rows, with three rows of molars on the upper jaw and two rows of molars on the lower jaw! The sheepsheads require this specialised and heavily-armed dentition to scrape rooted mollusks and crustaceans off hard surfaces, and to crush their hard shells. Their prey includes animals like clams, oysters, crabs and barnacles, but they also supplement their diet with aquatic plants too.
They take part in diurnal vertical migration, which means they dive to deeper water (300 to 500 meters deep) in the morning and ascend back to shallower water in the evening. They do this to follow their prey, which also migrates vertically; bigeye tunas’ migration is linked to the deep scattering layer, a layer of different marine animals!
They’re anglerfish which have adapted to using their pelvic fins as legs, using them to walk on the seafloor instead of swimming!
Their protruding nostrils help them sense vibrations in the water around them. This helps them hunt at night in the darkness!
This fish belongs into the family Cetomimidae, which is also called flabby whalefish: they’re among the deepest living fish out there, with some species living in depths of several kilometers! This particular species is named after the hair-like growth on its body. Not much else is known about it, as it lives very deep!
