Dr. Jordana Moore Saggese will explore Jean-Michel Basquiat’s blatant reproduction of images, particularly those from the history of art, which has perplexed critics and scholars of this work. She considers the connections between music and painting in Basquiat’s oeuvre, arguing jazz provides a foundation for the experimental practices of improvisation and appropriation that remain misunderstood.
