Die Bedeutung ist fast gleich. Beides meint "eine sehr kleine Menge", "sehr wenig". "unerheblich" bedeutet noch "unwichtig, unbedeutsam".
Es gibt nur ein geringfügiges Problem = sehr kleines Problem
Er macht nur unerhebliche Fortschritte. = fast keine Fortschritte
