Question about German
herangehen vs. angehen
Ich habe eine Frage zum Unterschied zwischen “herangehen and “angehen”. Ich gebe ein paar Beispiele an:
1. Das Land musst die Inflation angehen. (The country has to fight inflation.)
2. Die Art und Weise wie das Restaurant die Bedienung herangeht ist ganz
unpraktisch. (The restaurant’s approaches to service is totally unpractical.)
Wenn meine Uebersetzungen da oben stimmen, dann im folgenden unvollstaendigen Satz
3. Wir muessen das Problem _______.
wuerde nur “angehen” passen, oder? Und herangehen passt nur wenn eine Methode/Herangehensweise besprochen wird?

2. "Die Art und Weise, wie das Restaurant *an* die Bedienung herangeht, ist ganz unpraktisch"
"an etwas herangehen" = to approach something (both physically and like in your example)
"angehen" can also be (colloquially) used as attacking someone verbally or physically. When used for an argument it is mostly meant verbally.
Sie ging mich sofort an. -> She (verbally) attacked me right away.
3. You can't really "approach" a problem physically. If you want it to have the same meaning as your sentence number 2, you have to use another noun with it ("approaching the way of serving").
in your case it would be "Wir müssen das Problem angehen", so basically we have to attack the problem
