The Complete Package and I attended our first Houston Art Car Parade this weekend. What a hoot! Over 300 cars entered this year’s parade; each one of them unique and entertaining. Here’s a look at this year’s event, starting with Houston’s mayor. Those cars are awe-inspiring. I wanted to come home and glue stuff to my Jeep. My favorite was the big walking man near the end of the post. He didn’t photograph well, but he was amazing. As they pedaled the crank to make him move, his feet and legs we animated and it really looked like he was walking down the street. It was awesome!
yeah, sure you took the Viking pictures for some lady behind you – you just keep telling TCP that (wink, wink).
The cars are fantastic! What a wonderful way to spend the day.
Okay, I’m not going to lie. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. But neither could TCP. That was one rocking, confident viking. And there WAS a lady behind us who was ogling the viking, as well. She still has my business card from the guys in the car painted for an attorney who defends clients busted for weed. Evidently she felt she needed it more than me, because she said “I’m gonna need to hang on to that” when I showed it to her. Glad I could help a girl out.

I’m not sure which one you’re thinking of, Thoughtsy. If it’s the next to last photo, that’s the big Walking Man. He was awesome.
I love the paisley beatle!! I would drive that around alllllllll the time!
I know! It’s so fun! No one could ever be grumpy when they ride in that car.
My boys LOVED these cars! I love the liberal use of VW Beetles as Canvas. I’ve wanted a VW convertible since I figured out what one was…alas, it doesn’t seat 7. But when I do get one someday, it will have paisley and flowers painted all over it. The Viking is hilarious!
BTW–The Sock Monkey Car would be Bacon Slayer’s nightmare. The guy hates monkeys.
Ruh-row, Shaggy. I’m not sure The Bacon Slayer & I can be friends any longer. I LOVE monkeys. And squirrels. How does he feel about squirrels? And please do tell him that our entire friendship is riding on this answer.
He says squirrels are just fine. Phew! That was a close one.
Thank goodness! If he didn’t like squirrels, I was going to be heartbroken. Guess I can quit searching for ‘monkey barns’ for The Compound.

Yes you did! There was also a guy dressed like Colonel Sanders (holding a bucket of chicken) driving a giant fried drumstick. I loved that guy!
Rock on Viking Skater Dude!! And that chicken wing car – I wonder if the exhuast smelled like fried chicken? Mmmm.
I don’t remember smelling the exhaust. I was too busy trying to figure out how to try that crunchy coating and lick my fingers.
