About James Mied

James Mied is a freelance illustrator and teacher living in Kansas City, Missouri. James Mied graduated from The Kansas City Art Institute in 2018, and in 2024 will graduate with an MFA degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York.  He has published work for the Kansas City Star, The Pitch, ErgoComical Studios, and Andrew McNeel’s Studios. He is a narrative illustrator and has illustrated for the books “Lord O’sis” released in 2021 and “A Haunted Road Atlas” released in 2022. James Mied creates colorful, whimsical, and mythical characters and settings in his work drawing upon, cartoons, mythology, fantasy, and art history as a source of inspiration. His professional goals include working as a designer for video games, illustrating as an art director, and creating a long-running graphic novel series called Bounty. Aside from drawing he is enthusiastic about teaching and is an avid collector of plants, movies, video games, books, and cuddles with their partner.
