Geographic Distribution/Epidemiology
Northern Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Central and South America. Main hosts are camels, equids, ruminants, and dogs; since several strains of this species are rather harmless, while others are very pathogenic, the true rates of distribution are difficult to estimate. In any way in many regions, the disease (surra) is economically very important. Furthermore human cases have been reported.
