Im Kindesalter treten Bewegungsstörungen sowohl als Symptom von Erkrankungen als auch als transiente Besonderheit der normalen motorischen Entwicklung („developmental movement disorders“) auf. Daher ist die Abgrenzung zwischen benignen oder selbstlimitierenden, transienten Störungen gegenüber progressiven, teils behandelbaren Krankheitsbildern wichtig, um aufwendige Diagnostik zu vermeiden und die Eltern zu beruhigen.
