Abstract

THE FREIGHT STATION In 1873, the freight station of the Imperial Royal Privileged Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company was built with 15 tracks, a task which required up to 5 metres of landfill on the site. At the time, the area was located outside of the Linienwall fortification on the periphery of the city. Parallel, the 10th district Favoriten began to grow to the south of the railway terrain. In 1956, the freight station became apart ofVienna South Station and since then has been called “Vienna South Station Freight Station”.
