Zusammenfassung
Wenn man ursächlich noch nicht voll durchschaute und auch therapeutisch noch nicht voll beherrschte psychische Störungen von Zeit zu Zeit neu konzipiert, so geschieht dies ja jedenfalls in der empirischen Forschung meist zu einem ganz bestimmten Zweck. Die bis dahin angereicherten, methodisch ganz unterschiedlich gewonnenen und auch sachlich oft widersprüchlichen Wissenskomplexe sollen zu einem neuen, in sich stimmigen Gesamtbild der jeweiligen Störung zusammengefügt werden. Darum ist man nicht etwa nur aus Übersichtlichkeitsgründen bemüht. Die neue Gesamtsicht soll vielmehr heuristisch wirken und zu einer gegenstandsadäquateren Hypothesengenerierung führen, die sonst — ohne die vorausgegangene Integrationsleistung — gar nicht möglich gewesen wäre. Folgerichtig hängt die Güte der Konzeption dann auch letztlich wieder von der empirischen Bewährung der neu aus ihr hergeleiteten Prüfhypothesen ab (s. Abb. 1).
