2020 Achter Acres Review

Recently, the staff of HauntedIllinois.com visited Achter Acres, a yard display located at 5901 Liberty Square, in Oak Forest, Illinois. Created by Kelly and George Achter, this is the second year they have built props for their display. Having grown up near a family who always had a very elaborate Halloween display every year, George said that it inspired him to put together his own. In addition to that, horror movies were also an inspiration for their yard display.

While they have only been decorating their yard for a relatively short period of time, their yard display is constantly growing and evolving, with new props and animations being added every single year. Being very dedicated to their craft, the Achters work on projects and concepts year-round.

When asked why they are open throughout the month of September, instead of waiting until October like many yard displays do, they replied: "We think of it as Christmas...you don't just put lights out for December!"

This yard display is also associated with a charity. In their driveway, there is a large donation box for "Project Fire Buddies". This charity helps severely ill children within the community, ensuring that they have very special birthdays and holidays. As part of the services they provide, the fire department arrives with lights and sirens from a line of fire trucks and police cars, along with the child's favorite cartoon characters and LOTS of presents!

The Achters are proud members of the Chicago Haunt Builders, which is a dedicated group of Halloween fanatics in the Chicagoland area who construct elaborate yard displays and home haunts during the Halloween season.

With what they have accomplished in just a couple of years, we look forward to seeing what they dream up in the future.
