This bike store is pretty meh. I stopped in on a whim awhile ago because they said they were having a huge sale. I like sales, so I couldn't resist.
I would probably put the quality of many of the bikes they carry on the range of Target or Walmart. Which is to say, you'll get what you pay for. I'm sure that if you need to get from point A to point B at a snail's pace, this place would be fine to get a bike, but if you're looking for a reliable and nimble commuter, I would go elsewhere (my bike list details several shops around town). They do carry some higher end stuff, but when I was in it was mostly beach cruisers and the like.
They carry a lot of components, but a lot of them, at least in the sale section, seemed kind of junky, dusty, and old. I think I would rather order some cheapo stuff online from nashbar.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Karen M.Columbus, OH220247585Sep 10, 2013
I'm actually giving this place 4 and a half stars because they let me use an expired groupon for a tuneup. I thought that was great customer service.
I needed the tuneup and an innertube replacement. Dropped my bike off, and they called the next day to let me know I had a stretched chain and the cost to have it replaced. I appreciate that...and gave them the go!
They took care of my bike, were super friendly about it and I thought the prices were reasonable. I didn't have a lot of time to browse either time I was there but I saw some nice looking Schwinn's in there. And thanks Handy Bikes for allowing me to use my expired groupon!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kiarash Z.Tempe, AZ29875286Feb 15, 2009First to Review
If you need vintage moped parts or service, BJ is the guy to see. He has thousands of square feet of parts. It's like visitin a libaray where all the books have been replaced with chains, cables, sprockets and tubes.
On one trip, I bought:
Sachs throttle cable
Sachs center stand
Six tires of different sizes for a Sachs, Motomarina and Mobylette
Mobylette chain
Pedal arm pins
And BJ's a nice guy, to boot. He's been working on moped since before I was born.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Matt V.Columbus, OH91Apr 30, 2013
Had a terrible experience last week. Beware! No returns. And the gentleman that works there during the week between the repair shop and the front store, is rude and full of energy (sarcasm).
Now we have a bike 1 week old ridden once before we decided that was not the bike for us and need a single speed. When we walked in the door 8 days later (because I was out of town for 5 days) the man that finally came out of the back to help said there were no returns. We were told to look at a sign posted to the side of the register that said no returns. No one ever mentioned it to us, it's not on the receipt, and they don't have it on their website. I was not even told they're willing to give an exchange. Instead, I was given the cold shoulder and no options except a business card for the owner who was equally unhelpful over the phone. It's a brand new Raleigh purchased for $400 but is two or three sizes too big for my girlfriend. It was supposed to be a gift, but because of bad customer service, it just turned into a terrible experience for both of us.
Don't shop here. I recommend B1 bicycles over on Long St.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Carol D.Columbus, OH06Aug 7, 2016
Nice job rehabbing a 20 year old bike. Reasonable cost and ready to ride within a few days.

$102 for literally put some grease on the chain and replacing a brake cable (which obviously i could have done for free). For what I initially brought the bike to the shop, didnt work. A month later, the bike is useless. Thanks.

My wife and I have come to Handy Bikes for over 12 years and our experience has always been excellent. They always are great to work with, swap seats and other accessories, to make the bike just right for you. The owner seems to take great pride in his store and providing the terrific customer service that he would expect of others. Oh, and they deliver. We always go there first and highly recommend them.

Took our bikes here for tuneups because they offered a groupon. My bike needed a few repairs (which I knew going in) and it ended up costing me less than half of what I expected. The service was great! We will definitely go back!

They assembled the Forge bike I ordered from Target.com within an hour for $45, using the 10% off coupon I printed from their website. They did a solid job. When I asked about adjustments, they said to ride it around and come back when I knew what needed adjusting. I just returned to get an adjustment of the handlebars, and they were prompt and courteous. They have some really nice looking bikes there, like Cannondales. The accessories appear kind of expensive (Bell helmets were $50), but if I was going to get a quality bike again, I'd probably go there. Although I'm really enjoying my Forge, it would be easier to get a bike from them. I'm estimating the premium of buying from them directly and the convenience that would offer would be about $100.

I've been in this store many times and have been treated like gold every time. With repairs they go above and beyond, always giving me service beyond what I pay for with the jobs done on or before the times promised. There are many many accessories available and the for new bikes? They have the top brands, nothing like target and Kmart.
