My direct experience with Dr Shrumpf is when I had an initial appointment due to shoulder pain. I was asked by his office staff to bring any imaging for the physician to view which I did. When I was seen by the physician, I asked him directly if had viewed the images. He responded "No,I don't need to"
He came across as snarky and arrogant without any sign of empathy.
He did not perform any tests that are part of standard assessment of shoulder pain. But ,yet when I went into My chart on line and viewed his documentation,he signed off on my medical record that he did perform the physical tests and that they were negative..He also documented that he looked at the images which he clearly stated to me that "he didn't need to" What is concerning,is that the physician not only did not do an adequate exam but was not truthful in his documentation in what is a considered a legal document.Clearly there is a integrity problem with this physician/surgeon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - James O.American Canyon, CA12114Feb 14, 2024
Unfortunately, things haven't worked out for my right shoulder since the last surgery that Dr,Schrumpf performed, and when I asked for more physical therapy, appointment due to the nature of my injury they ghosted me.

Dr. Schrumpf has performed reverse shoulder replacements on both my 80 year-old shoulders over the past 3 years. I am totally pleased. I'm playing the best golf I've played in the past 10 years, am completely pain free and sleeping with no shoulder discomfort at all; all without the need for any medications.

Updating my review because after posting my initial review, I was contacted by Dr. Schrumpf's office within the hour. The person that called said that they acknowledged my issues are and that Dr. Schrumpf is willing to give me a call. Dr. S himself reached out to me via email and apologized for the issues that were caused by his office and his new staff and agreed to call during a time window the following business day. The doctor then went over my MRI as he would we any other patients and advised on the best possible treatment to move forward.
The total time of service from my initial appointment to actually going over my results was 35 days.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 6, 2020Previous reviewI've had one of the most frustrating experiences with CA Pacific Orthopedics. I will start by saying really think twice before you decide to waste your time and money going here for likely important services.
For starters I made an appointment and went in, I was called in 30 minutes past my appointment time, without being given a heads up that they were running behind. I was first seen by an assistant who spent less than a few minutes talking to me about the issue I went in for and very quickly recommended I get an XRAY. Thereafter, Dr. Schrumpf came into the room to see me. Likely if you are going to a doctor to get help with a medical/health issue you are looking to talk to someone who is professional and seeking to hear what you are experiencing in an effort to get you the best care possible.... One would hope. This doctor came into the room yawning, seemingly uninterested and spent less than 1.5 minutes chatting with me before quickly recommending an MRI. Not once was the XRAY I took a few minutes before was mentioned. At a minimum, a doctor should at least spend some time looking into a situation before recommending an MRI. So I left very confused, not what I was expecting when making the investment to go to CA Pacific Ortho over many other options.
The front office staff instructed I would have to fill out preliminary information for the MRI which would need to take place at a later date. So I went and filled this all out, as directed. I received an appointment 2 weeks later for 1:45 pm, I arrived 5 minutes early before my given appointment time. I did not receive any direction to come in any earlier. Upon arrival, I was told I was late and that they would have to cancel. Obviously furious I demanded an appointment ASAP so they gave me one for 7:30pm. I was a little skeptical of the appointment time this late so at 5:15 pm I checked online and found that everything shows they are closed. I try calling several times but get no answer. Finally, on my last attempt, I was able to be transferred to an after-hours line and was told they weren't sure of my scheduled appointment but was told to "just show up". So I embark on my third trip there to get an MRI. After quite a few days I receive no follow up on my MRI so I call the office to find out what the results are from the doctor. I am told they are "too busy" with outpatients and I would need to schedule an appointment to discuss the results and that the doctors do not have time to call the patients either.
Now, I'm not sure I can explain any more of my experience but it is very clear and evident that this office does not value giving their patients quality and even decent care. I am truly stunned at the level of disorganization all around. - Douglas W.Mill Valley, CA081Mar 11, 2022
It's my pleasure to give Mark Schrumpf a (5) stellar review for the surgery he performed on my shoulder. I had a major rotator cuff tear and several other injuries that needed repair. At our consultation, he was friendly, informal, and even breezy which belied his exceptional skill as a surgeon. He over-prepared me, under-promised, and over-delivered which was a great combination for my recovery. Now more than four months out, I have much less pain than before the surgery and continue to regain full function in my active life. Thanks go as well to his fine assistant Jada, the perfect picture of professionalism.

Dr. Schrumpf was so nice and quite charming. I went to him from Kaiser who blamed my pain in my shoulder on age and was unable to diagnose the problem. Dr. Schrumpf was able to tell me what is going on with my shoulder from looking at an old MRI that Kaiser did. He gave me a steroid shot but stated if it doesn't get better he can do an arthroscopic surgery to repair the problem. He was funny and took the seriousness out of my pain.
I have been to several doctors under this team at CPMC for my back problems and they are all the best. They start off conservative but let you know this is not the only thing they can do for your pain. The reason why I switched my insurance to Blue Cross and got out of Kaiser is so that I can get treatment like this!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Girish P.San Francisco, CA02Dec 4, 2020
I broke my clavicle during a bicycle crash. Dr. Schrumpf was super professional and super efficient. A 15 minute consultation was followed by a surgery within 72 hours. Two more follow-up visits And six weeks later I am fully recovered. Highly recommend him

Dr. Schrumpf and his office were exceptional in helping me through my broken clavicle. Options were presented clearly and I was given a voice. Additionally, as a transgender patient, I always felt respected and seen and cared for. The entire staff were great, and even when I was panicked and calling oncall or emailing the staff, I was communicated with promptly, and my feelings were taken into account. I hope to not need to see them again, but I would absolutely go right away to them for orthopedic needs.

Doctor Mark is a genius. I will spare the gory details but I was in a place where I was about to take a gun to my head after a year of chronic pain (thanks to one misdiagnosis after another). I was unable to work and was on the verge of losing my job. By a miracle someone led me to Dr Schrumpf who diagnosed my real problem. He got me into surgery immediately. His wife was about to deliver a baby but he did the surgery anyway. I am now pain-free thanks to the best doctor/surgeon in California.
