Shimano RD-L525 Rear Derailleur Service Instructions | Manualzz
 SERVICE INSTRUCTION @ SHIMANO
(1) Mount the chain on the smallest chainwheel gear
and the largest freewheel gear. Turn B-tension
adjustment bolt so the guide pulley moves as SHIMANO REAR DERAILLEUR
near the low gear as possible. Model RD- L522-SGS (Super Long Cage)
@ If the chain rubs when pedaling in reverse, the guide RD- L522-SS (Short Cage)
pulley is too close to the low gear. Turn B-tension RD- L523-GS (Long Cage)
adjustment bolt clockwise until the rubbing and RD- L523-SGS (Super Long Cage)
noise disappear. RD- L523-SS (Short Cage)

| ASSEMBLY and ADJUSTMENT _
Assembly to Frame
Secure the bracket axle to the fork end with a 6mm
hexagon wrench (TL-WRG36).
Note: When installing, be careful that the B-tension
adjustment bolt is not deformed by coming into
contact with the fork end tab.
‘Bracket axle tightening torque: )
._ 80—100kgfcm (70—85 in. Ibs)

Stroke adjustment
* Adjustment at the high (top) gear
Turn the high adjustment bolt (H) so that the guide
pulley center is aligned with the outside of the high
gear as seen from the rear. Turn adjustment bolt (H)
clockwise to move the guide pulley towards the low
gear.
* Adjustment at the low gear
Shift the guide pulley to the low gear. Turn the low
adjustment bolt (L) so that the center of the guide
pulley is aligned with the center of the low gear. Turn
‘the low adjustment bolt (L) clockwise to shift the
guide pulley towards the high gear.

Chain Assembly
e In the case of a freewheel with 28 teeth or less:
Put the chain on the smallest sprocket of the
freewheel and on the largest sprocket of the front
chainwheel. Adjust the length of the chain by
checking that the center line connecting the rear
derailleur guide pulley and the tension pulley is at
right angles to the ground.

* In the case of a freewheel with 29 teeth or more, or
the front chainwheel of triple gear:
Put the chain on the largest front chainwheel and the
largest rear sprocket of the freewheel. Stretch the
chain to the limit and add 2 chain links.

Cable adjustment
Pass the inner cable through the arm channel as
shown in the figure below. Pull any slack out of the
cable and tighten the cable lock bolt.
Cable lock bolt tightening torque:
40—60kgfcm (35—53in.Ibs.)
