Tillandsia bergeri Mez
Clavell d’aire
Scientific name: Tillandsia bergeri Mez
Family: Bromeliaceae
Origin:South America
Plantation year: Unknown
Flowering: Spring – Summer
Description
It is a plant that hardly needs soil to grow. It does this with the humidity of the air.
It is formed from a rosette of leaves. When it grows, it creates a stem about 20 centimeters long, from which the flower will emerge.
The flowers are deep blue and the plant uses all its energy to produce them. When the flower is fertilized and the seed matures, the stem falls from the plant. Thus, the seeds are spread.
From these stems that have fallen, new plants can emerge.
Marimurtra’s specimen
Throughout the garden you can find around 30 specimens, in the trunks and branches of the trees. The specimen that hangs from one of the branches of the Monterey Cypress, in the area of the well, stands out.
Did you know…?
The air carnation decorates many balconies and house bars. We find them hanging, without a visible pot and they bloom and paint a bush of curly leaves in blue tones.
