A Taylor Swift song has briefly appeared on Spotify - credited to a band once fronted by paedophile Ian Watkins.

The singer removed her entire back catalogue from the music streaming service last year, but the song I Knew You Were Trouble reappeared over the weekend.

However, it was listed as a Lostprophets song and the cover artwork was taken from Canadian cartoon Scaredy Squirrel.

The service displayed a play count of 40,000,000 but the vast majority of those plays would have been from the last time the song appeared on Spotify back in 2014.

As a result, the song appeared at the top of the Lostprophets track listing on Spotify.

A Spotify spokesman said the track was removed immediately once the firm was notified.

It blamed a third party for the error, and said it would be taking the matter further.

"The track in question was delivered to us by a provider, whose responsibility it is to ensure that content delivered to Spotify is fully licensed and in compliance with our Infringement Policy.

"We take the integrity of our catalogue very seriously, and will immediately remove any content that is found to be incorrectly licensed or attributed to the incorrect artist or composer.

"The track was taken down as soon as it was discovered (three days after it was delivered), and we will be taking the matter further with the provider who delivered this track."

Watkins was jailed for 35 years in 2013 for a string of sex offences.
