Chance the Rapper and his fiancée Kirsten Corley will walk down the aisle this weekend.

The Chicago-based artist, 25, announced the news in a series of tweets on Wednesday that also highlighted how he met his future wife back in 2003 at the age of 9.

Chance, whose real name is Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, shared an old picture of Kirsten saying it was taken the night they met.

As the story goes, Chance’s mom was working for a real estate company and took him and his father to a company party one evening. While there, a trio of girls, including Kirsten, took over the dance floor to perform a lip-syncing version of a Destiny’s Child song.

“Now I’m locking eyes with the prettiest girl I ever seen in my almost-decade of life on earth,” Chance mused. “I really shouldn’t even say locked eyes cause really, I was just staring at her; as she and her girls were conquering this choreography.”

Chance’s father nudged him to join them on the dance floor. Chance, by this time, had won several dance competitions at school, but he refused to join in.

“Young me was shy,” Chance said. “This wasn’t the time or place. Not just because it wasn’t my party, not because it was their moment to dance, not even cause I was nervous about dancing in front of folks. It’s cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl.”

Fast forward 16 years later and the couple will finally have their first dance this weekend as husband and wife. “I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny,” he shared.

The pair got engaged at a 4th of July BBQ in 2018. He got down on one knee, before friends and family, and proposed to Kirsten, who looked shocked. The couple’s daughter, Kensli, who was 2 at the time, joined them for a group hug.

Chance and Kirsten also celebrated their engagement with a party in October. Writing about the party on social media, Chance said, “I feel so honored and God just real talk has a plan for me and like I just needed to let him guide me real talk…”
