Country singer Travis Tritt involved in fatal car accident

Country singer Travis Tritt is “saddened beyond belief” after his tour bus was involved in a fatal car accident.

The musician shared a harrowing photo on Instagram Friday night of a Jeep and a pick-up truck smashed into each other and explained that his vehicle was also involved in the accident in South Carolina.

“We were sideswiped in a fatal accident with a driver going the wrong way on Veteran’s Highway as we were leaving Myrtle Beach tonight,” he said. “The Jeep driver hit a pickup truck head on right in front of us.”

Tritt, 56, and his fellow passengers were not injured.

“Thank God we are all okay,” he said. “I feel so bad for those who died needlessly tonight. I’m literally shaken by what I witnessed.”

According to local CBS affiliate WCSC, an emergency crew responded to the wreck involving the three vehicles around 3:30 a.m.

Although the news outlet did not confirm the accident was due to drunk driving, Tritt wrote on in a Twitter thread that the accident was “the result of someone who was obviously driving drunk or impaired.”

“I beg everyone to please, please, please drive sober,” he continued. “Know when to admit that you are too impaired to drive.”

The singer performed at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC, earlier that night and is scheduled to perform at the Anderson Music Hall in Georgia on Saturday night, according to his website.

“God bless those who died and their families,” Tritt concluded. “Two human beings died tonight for no reason other than stupidity. I’m saddened beyond belief!”
