Marcus Tullius Cicero, was a man of few words, but great deeds.
He lived, he loved, he fought, and he died.
And though his story was short, it was remembered for generations to come.

Who was Marcus Tullius Cicero ?

It would’ve been better to say who he wasn’t in politics.

Overall Cicero was Roman statesman, orator, lawyer, philosopher, writer, and consul.

That’s a really wide range of status. With that status of course comes great skills and mostly knowledge in rhetorics, persuasion and oratory.

Why is his speeches so famous even today ?

Cicero’s speeches and writing are popular because of their eloquence and clarity. Thanks to this they are still widely read and studied today.

He wrote on a wide range of topics, including philosophy, ethics, politics, law, and rhetoric, and his legacy continues.

What rhetorical devices Marcus Tullius Cicero used in his speeches ?

1.Repetition
Cicero often repeated key words and phrases to emphasize his points and make them more memorable.
For example, in his speech “In Catilinam” he repeatedly used the phrase “O tempora, o mores!” (“Oh, the times! Oh, the morals!”) to express his outrage at the state of Rome.

2.Allusion
Cycero frequently alluded to historical figures and events to give his speeches a sense of depth and resonance.
For example, in his speech “Pro Milone” he compared his client to the ancient Greek hero Hercules, who was known for his strength and bravery.

3.Metaphor
Cycero used metaphors to create vivid images in his listeners minds and make his points more concrete.
For example, in his speech “De Oratore,” he compared the ideal orator to a bee who gathers nectar from many flowers and creates honey.

4.Antithesis
Cycero often used antithesis, or the contrast of opposing ideas, to create a sense of drama and tension in his speeches.
For example, in his speech “In Verrem,” he contrasted the wealth and luxury of the corrupt governor Verres with the poverty and suffering of the Sicilian people he had exploited.

Marcus Tullius Cicero was a phenomenoal orator.

Right here I only introduced you to him.

I hope that I encouraged you to study at least a little bit more.

For me personally was and still be the best orator that ever extisted.

Thank you, and have a wonderful day everyone who reads that ❤
